County to Host Two Free Adopt-A-Stream Workshops
Programs will educate citizens on how to protect local water sources
Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) will host two free workshops designed to help citizens learn how to protect local waterways through the Adopt-A-Stream program. The goal of the Adopt-A-Stream program is to inform citizens about local water quality and advise on ways to protect the county’s water.
Two workshops will be held in November. The first workshop is Bacterial and Chemical Monitoring, and the second workshop is Biological Monitoring. The workshops will both be held at the Cumming Library located at 585 Dahlonega Road.
The Bacterial and Chemical Monitoring workshop will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. This workshop will instruct citizens how to test the stream for dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, E. coli and more.
The Biological Monitoring workshop will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees will be instructed on how to take an inventory of macroinvertebrates in the stream, which can help determine the overall health of the stream.
“We want to share with residents information about how they can assist in securing this precious resource for future generations,” KFCB Community Outreach Specialist Kevin Smith said. “We hope those attending the workshops will leave with a better understanding of how they can have a crucial impact on our community’s water quality as well as the water quality of the entire state.”
